Why MP3?

Simple: we want to make it easier to listen to Vega Radio online! MP3 is a very popular audio format which plays in a number of different audio players.

What do I need to listen to the MP3 Streams?

Several free players will play our MP3 streams, including: WinAmp, Real Player and Apple's iTunes. (Vega Radio's high and low bandwidth streams will soon be listed in the iTunes Radio Directory, look in the Public Radio folder)

What are those little numbers next to the play links?

The numbers represent the "bitrate", the amount of digitized information that is sent through the stream each second. There is a direct correlation between higher bitrate and higher quality, but a high bitrate stream may require a broadband connection (office network, cable modem or DSL). Our high quality MP3 stream is encoded at 64-256k depending on the audio content. Our low quality MP3 stream is encoded at 16-96k depending on the audio content. Both work very well on either a dial-up modem or broadband connection.

Can I use the QuickTime player?

Not easily. To play our MP3 streams in Quicktime, right click on the stream link, and select copy shortcut . Then, in your Quicktime player, Under the File options, select open "Open URL in New Player..." and paste the link.

How can I bookmark Vega Radio's audio streams?

Windows Users: Drag the link to your desktop or right click on a stream link, select "Save Target As..." or "Add to Favorites"

Mac Users: Drag the link to your desktop or control-click and select "Download link to disk" or "Add to Favorites"

I have an iPOD, is Vega Radio's stream downloadable?

No. Our streams are offered in non-downloadable format due to copyright/distribution rights restrictions but we may be offering Podcasts and downloadable MP3 archives of some future programs.

To listen to Vega Radio, you need one of the many audio players that can play MP3 format streams, Vega recommends the latest free versions of Real Player, WinAmp or Apple's iTunes.
